The new relationship between the EU and the UK begins, provided an agreement has been reached, approved by the EU Member States, the European Parliament and the British Parliament. The British Parliament decides that a further extension of the Date of Brexit is necessary because it first wants to examine the corresponding laws before deciding on the withdrawal agreement. The UK government is then asking the EU to postpone the date of Brexit to 31 January 2020. The rules for citizens and businesses wishing to move, work or study in another country after the end of the transition period will depend to a large extent on the outcome of the ongoing negotiations on future relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom. If an agreement is not reached, the rules and rules must be applied to third countries outside the EU. The 599-page withdrawal agreement covers the main areas: The House of Commons votes in favour of the Brexit Act. This means that the UK is on track to leave the EU on 31 January. However, the House of Lords and the European Parliament have yet to approve the agreement. The Northern Ireland Protocol, known as the Irish Backstop, was an annex to the November 2018 draft agreement outlining provisions to avoid a hard border in Ireland after the UK`s withdrawal from the European Union. The protocol provided for a provision of the safety net to deal with the circumstances in which satisfactory alternative arrangements were to come into force at the end of the transition period.
This project has been replaced by a new protocol that will be described as follows. Since March, the EU and the UK have continued regular negotiations despite the difficulties associated with the COVID 19 pandemic. The EU is conducting its negotiations on the basis of the mutually agreed political declaration. However, significant differences have not yet been resolved in some areas. These differences include fair competition, horizontal management of each agreement and fisheries. EU and UK negotiators Michel Barnier and David Frost and their teams have recently stepped up their negotiations. The clock is ticking, because an agreement must be reached quickly to have time for ratification by the European Parliament. The withdrawal agreement also contains provisions for the United Kingdom to leave the Convention setting the status of European schools, with the United Kingdom bound by the Convention and accompanying regulations on accredited European schools until the end of the last academic year of the transition period, i.e. at the end of the spring semester 2020-2021. The withdrawal agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom sets out the conditions for the UK`s orderly exit from the EU, in accordance with Article 50 of the Treaty on european Union.
